A presentation of a research on the means of survival and the methods of developing the media independent from the authorities and oligarchs in the countries with different levels of autocracy – Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine - has been held in Almaty.
In her research, Kazakh journalist Nazira Darimbet has exposed in detail the methods used bythe authoritarian (and close to authoritarian) governments to pressurize the independent media in the countries of the post-Soviet world.
The research is quite substantial in its volume which is not surprising since it contains the histories of the the independent media’s persecution and survival in the six countries.
