On October 10, 2019, the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Leader of the Nation Nursultan Nazarbayev gave an extensive interview to the journalists of the Khabar TV-channel. However, it was broadcasted only next evening which cannot but set us thinking about some unsettling things.
Especially since, on the same day, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky also talked to the press in Kiev for more than 14 consecutive hours and face to face.
The fact that the video recording of Nazarbayev’s interview was shown a day later than it actually took place shows without a doubt that it had been edited. Why and for what purpose? We do not have an answer to this question but allow for the possibility that Nazarbayev’s immediate circle was worried that a next immortal rambling would be born in the course of the interview such as the recommendation given to the Kazakh families to get two cows and survive via selling dairy products. So, they decided to be on the safe side just in case.
Be as it may, but, in the evening of October 11, 2019, the Kazakhs who are interested in politics or are simply used to watching the Khabar TV-channel programs had an opportunity to behold Nazarbayev with their own eyes.
What he said during the interview was immediately taken apart in citations and reprinted by many a Kazakh print media and internet-resources, therefore, we see no point in commenting on it. Especially since Nursultan Nazarbayev said nothing new.
But we still got something useful out of the material.
First, judging by the phrase about the criminals who fled abroad where no one wants them and who, while there, slander their fatherland by wishing it all the worst, Nursultan Nazarbayev is aware of the activities of Mukhtar Ablyazov, Aydos Sadykov, Bergey Ryskaliyev and other opponents of the Kazakh authorities.
This is good news since, if we are to believe the information from Nursultan Nazarbayev’s immediate circle, his allies are trying very hard to shield their boss from any negative information in order to preserve his health and good spirits and protect him from the worries about the problems that the country and the super-presidential vertical are experiencing today.
Second, Nursultan Nazarbayev’s claim that the rumors of the existence of the duality of power have nothing to do with reality and are spread by the people who do not want stability for Kazakhstan is likely to cheer up second President Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev and his circle. But it also means that the Leader of the Nation (who, by the way, is in charge of Kazakhstan’s Security Council) is unaware that the main sources of all kind of talks about the duality of power in the state exist not beyond the Kazakh borders but inside the country, moreover, within Akorda itself.
Third, when talking about his activities in retirement, Nursultan Nazarbayev let it slip to the point of knee shaking.
Here is a quote (text in bold be kz.expert): «I have been dreaming of just having time for myself but it hasn’t worked out this way. Today, my task is a constitutional one. I am preoccupied with the party, I am the leader of the party, the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan and Security Council, it has a lot of responsibilities. Of course, I cannot refuse invitations from different international forums since I am now the Honorary Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Union».
In other words, if the Leader of the Nation is speaking the truth, it means that all the statesmen and top managers of the quasi-governmental structures who are in contact with him are asking for appointments themselves?
And to think that, just lately, Nursultan Nazarbayev has talked with Chief of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alik Shpekbayev, Minister of Interior Erlan Turgumbayev, President of the National Academy of Science Murat Zhurinov, Head of the Mazhilis of the Kazakh Parliament Nurlan Nigmatulin, Minister of Defense Nurlan Ermekbayev. And all this not counting the unannounced meetings, the visits of high-rank foreign guests and the contacts with Kazakh officials during all kinds of offsite events such as visiting the Astana International Financial Center or the Security Council meeting.
One can either assume that the talks of the duality of power in Kazakhstan do correspond to reality or allow for the possibility that the top managers of the state agencies and the quasi-governmental organizations consider it their duty to keep the Leader of the Nation in the know. Which, de-facto, is the same thing.
In conclusion, we would like to mention Nursultan Abishevich’s slip of the tongue that has no political significance but is very insightful from the humanistic standpoint. For the first time, he has acknowledged that he has children by his third wife. Let us quote the words of Nursultan Nazarbayev (text in bold by kz.expert).
«There are children, grandchildren. I want to spend more time with them, see them more. The kids are different now, they have so much to do, they have no time. They work from morning to night, poor things, and don’t even have time to play. That’s what their schedule is like. But I don’t have the same everyday tasks as the President. I am overseeing all the operations, give recommendations, suggestions. If they ask for advice, I give it, if they don’t, then not. Sometimes, if I see that something is going wrong, I of course cannot just sit there and do nothing about it».
By the looks of it, it is the youngest children that, today, are Nursultan Nazarbayev’s biggest concern. Perhaps this can explain the activities of certain people from his immediate circle in whose name Nazarbayev’s monetary funds and other assets are registered. Based on the information received from our sources, they have drastically intensified the search for the states that would be safe for keeping the money or investing it in a business. By the looks of it, the process of reregistering a part of the Leader of the Nation’s fortune in the name of his youngest children and perhaps his third wife is now underway.
